Gopher Harrow

In our hay pivot we had a few gopher mounds to get rid of. The smarty-pants boys figured out a way to knock them down. They tied a bunch of tires together with some wire! It worked great!

The Winning Of Hailey Kesler

hailey1
Little miss Hailey is growing up. She has been working hard on improving her roping skills. When I first met Hailey she was 6 years old. Now she is 14 and becoming an excellent young lady. She has a great love of animals and is so kind to them.I see her out there daily riding around on Diesel practicing. She was able to go to a roping in Wickenburg, Arizona in January and came back with a check! I asked her to tell me about the day and these are her words:
I felt bad because I had just missed for my dad. We were high call with a 19 on 3. I had one more person to rope with though and we were 3rd high call. The pressure was definitely on!
I ended up winning $515.00. It felt so exciting! I could not stop smiling. I just couldn’t believe that I had won 3rd place. I was on Diesel because he is my main horse. He is my favorite animal on the planet. He is always so good to rope on. He just is always honest and doesn’t cheat you. I was so overwhelmed with fear when it came time to rope the short go steer! I was just nervous I was going to miss, but I just went out there and roped it nice and consistently and I caught! It was the best feeling ever!

Quinn’s Arizona Adventure

Taylor and I headed out Sunday afternoon for Arizona. Stopped in St. George and picked up Chase Sullivan.  It was snowing pretty hard and we were excited to get to warm and sunny Arizona. When we got to Kingman, we had a stupid idea to let Chase drive and ended up breaking down 40 minutes out of Wickenburg. We thought the truck had an oil leak and ended up frying one of the piston’s in Taylor’s truck, so now we were a foot. Luckily our buddy, John Hayes, helped us take care of our horses for the night. So we were stranded in Wickenburg for a day. Luckily, my dad was going to be arriving Monday night. Dad stayed in Wickenburg for the next two days and roped while we took the semi down to Casa Grande to The Mike Cervi Memorial Roping.

We got to Casa Grande Tuesday evening for the pre-roping. We entered in the open and Taylor decided to miss our second steer. I had no luck with other partners. We stayed at Taylor’s grandparents trailer while we were down there.

On Wednesday we got up and went to McDonald’s for breakfast…it’s the breakfast of Champions! Taylor and I were pretty good on 3. He broke out on our 4th one to have a good call back. Chance Kiehnie and I were 15th call back. We would’ve been better but we pretty much drew all hard runners. Our 3rd steer, I couldn’t get there right on the corner and had to kind of track up the wall, which made us a little bit longer. So that didn’t really help either. Nobody else that riding with us did any good, so it was a pretty sad day.

We were all just glad we got home without any more bad luck!

Building Horse Runs

We are adding 11 new horse runs. They are each 100’x24’ and made of drill pipe, cable and lots of blood, sweat and tears (ok, maybe not so many tears, but definitely blood and sweat!).
Pens1
Doesn’t this face say it all? He’s a little excited for the completion of this project.
We decided to build the pens so the horses can have individual runs instead of group pens. Having their own pens will eliminate the munching of manes and tails. We will also be able to monitor their diet more closely.
Pens2
Lots of welding went in to this project.
This has been a major project, but I think the light at the end of the tunnel is coming! We will post the final results when they are finished; which I hear might be tomorrow!
Pens3
Half of the pens. It’s all coming together!

Meet Jeff

Jeff is our newest employee coming to us from California. He is Landon’s left hand man (no really, he really is left handed)! He received his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from University of Hawaii at Hilo. He then went on to get his certificate of Equine Science at Los Angeles Pierce College. He is also a certified pipe & structural steel welder. He is our “git-r-done” guy around here!

Jeff

He enjoys roping, riding, being out in the country, listening to music, but most of all he enjoys hanging out with the boys and his dog, Jo.

And P.S. Ladies…he’s single and looking!!! :)
