Taylor and I headed out Sunday afternoon for Arizona. Stopped in St. George and picked up Chase Sullivan. It was snowing pretty hard and we were excited to get to warm and sunny Arizona. When we got to Kingman, we had a stupid idea to let Chase drive and ended up breaking down 40 minutes out of Wickenburg. We thought the truck had an oil leak and ended up frying one of the piston’s in Taylor’s truck, so now we were a foot. Luckily our buddy, John Hayes, helped us take care of our horses for the night. So we were stranded in Wickenburg for a day. Luckily, my dad was going to be arriving Monday night. Dad stayed in Wickenburg for the next two days and roped while we took the semi down to Casa Grande to The Mike Cervi Memorial Roping.
We got to Casa Grande Tuesday evening for the pre-roping. We entered in the open and Taylor decided to miss our second steer. I had no luck with other partners. We stayed at Taylor’s grandparents trailer while we were down there.
On Wednesday we got up and went to McDonald’s for breakfast…it’s the breakfast of Champions! Taylor and I were pretty good on 3. He broke out on our 4th one to have a good call back. Chance Kiehnie and I were 15th call back. We would’ve been better but we pretty much drew all hard runners. Our 3rd steer, I couldn’t get there right on the corner and had to kind of track up the wall, which made us a little bit longer. So that didn’t really help either. Nobody else that riding with us did any good, so it was a pretty sad day.
We were all just glad we got home without any more bad luck!
